Earlier this year, we were thrilled to find out The Somerset Toiletry Company had been ranked 14th in The Elite Business Top 100 SMEs (EB100). Already a very special year for us, reaching our 25th year milestone in 2024 it’s a year of celebrations! The EB100 is the UK’s definitive league table of top SME businesses with the awards judged by a wide panel based on company size, growth ambitions and contribution to community.
As part of the celebrations, we were invited to attend the EB100 award ceremony in March, held at the Leonardo Royal Hotel in London. Our CEO, Brett was in attendance and to our delight we were given special recognition, being presented with ‘Sustainability of the Year’ award by the city of London.

It was even more of a fantastic moment when our name was called out when the envelope was opened. I guess it was just like being at the Oscars (not that I have been to the Oscars), maybe not Brad Pitt, but I did my best when going up to accept the award on behalf of the hardworking team here at STC—an outstanding achievement by everyone.’ Brett Bateman, CEO
Over recent years we’ve invested heavily in a sustainable direction as a business. In terms of packaging, we have reduced where possible and switched to materials that are commonly recycled. Examples include switching our bestselling Naturally European collection to kraft card packaging and our AAA range is made using white recycled plastic (now containing 30% PCR).
Mostly importantly, instead of using external partners, we recently brought our soap manufacturing in-house by creating a facility here in Somerset. Alongside sourcing sustainably sourced palm oil certified by the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) for our soaps, we’re really proud of our UK made, sustainable soaps.
New Soap Manufacturing Facility
In April 2024, Metro Mayor for the South West of England officially opened our newly relocated soap manufacturing facility.
Following his visit, Metro Mayor Dan Norris said:
“The soap and other body products they sell are top-quality, and they’re animal-friendly, and environmentally-friendly too. Here’s to the next 25 years.”
Changing what we do and how we do things is a gradual process, but we’re committed to making continual small steps on our journey as a business. Hard work and dedication form the entire team plays a huge part, from design concept, to sourcing and manufacturing to logistics.
