Packaging

We have been horrified to understand the level of plastic in our oceans and the fact that only a small percentage currently gets recycled. Therefore, high on our agenda is packaging, particularly in terms of plastic.

Research

  • Keep up-to-date with technological and industry advances.
  • Identify and harness innovation such as Breakdown Plastic (BDP™) to reduce our impact on the environment.
  • Explore current and upcoming plastic alternatives.

Reduce

  • Move away from unnecessary packaging, particularly in terms of gift sets.
  • Seek and trial alternatives to plastic packaging, including environmentally friendly material such as aluminium and glass.
  • Take an agile approach to packaging as innovative solutions come to market.

Recycle

  • Ensure our head office and warehouse continue best practices with recycling and waste management.
  • Shift all packaging to commonly recycled materials e.g. PET
  • Improve packaging & recycling information to help consumers responsibly dispose of products after use.
  • Increase the amount of recycled content used in our packaging.

Breakdown plastic

Breakdown Plastic Inc.

Breakdown Plastic™ is a revolutionary ingredient added to plastic during manufacturing, to enhance biodegradation of the product after use.

Should the plastic not be recycled, microbes will consume the plastic in landfill, soil or the ocean within a few years rather than centuries, leaving only natural remnants. To understand a little more about the science behind the technology, please visit the BDP™ website.

Launching February

We will be launching BDP™ in our new Naturally European fragrance in February 2020.

You will see the BDP™ logo firstly on our Plum Violet hand wash, body lotion & shower gel bottles and then phased into any plastic material we retain in the next couple of years.

Recycling

We truly believe recycling is the way forward and vital if we all want to protect our planet for future generations. Unfortunately, less items are generally recycled from bathrooms than our kitchens and we’d hope to encourage everyone to recycle as much as possible using local recycling programmes.

You’ll find the majority of our product packaging can be commonly recycled including glass bottles, plastic bottles, cardboard boxes and aluminium tubes. However, for those items which are not commonly recycled at this time (e.g. trigger sprays) there are various schemes which recycle almost anything, such as Terracycle.

TerraCycle is Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by recycling the “non-recyclable.” From coffee capsules, pens or plastic gloves, TerraCycle can collect and recycle almost any form of waste. They partner with individuals, as well as major companies, retailers, manufacturers, municipalities, and small businesses all over the world. Visit the Terracycle website for more information.
