In a heartwarming and artistic local collaboration, The Somerset Toiletry Company is proud to have teamed up with charity partners, BillyChip, a revolutionary social enterprise, to create a limited-edition soap bar, fittingly entitled ‘Soap with Hope’. Adding an electrifying edge to the partnership is none other than renowned graffiti artist Inkie, whose striking design breathes life into this one-of-a-kind venture.
The Players in This Collaboration
1. The Somerset Toiletry Company
At The Somerset Toiletry Company, we like to think we have a reputation for blending high-quality ingredients with thoughtful designs, all at reasonable price-points. We are passionate about sustainability and crafting items that look, smell, and feel indulgent while being kind to the planet.
2. BillyChip
BillyChip operate as a social enterprise on a mission to transform how people support those in need. Instead of handing cash, individuals can buy a BillyChip token to gift someone experiencing homelessness. This token can then be redeemed for food and hot drinks at (over 500) participating cafés and restaurants across the UK.
3. Inkie
A true icon of the UK street art scene and Bristol-native, Inkie has a distinct style that merges traditional art nouveau elements with contemporary graffiti techniques. His vibrant, intricate designs have graced everything from urban walls to high-profile projects, making him a perfect fit for this creative project.
An Idea Three Years in the Making
The seeds of this collaboration were first planted when The Somerset Toiletry Company and BillyChip first connected. We provide BillyChip with office space within our HQ, however, we have always hoped we could collaborate on something bigger, that would stretch past our own four walls here in Somerset.
The core of our idea harnessed a shared passion: to create a soap that not only uplifts the senses but also the community. For three years, the thought of a special soap sat waiting—until now.
At the beginning of 2024, our 25th anniversary year, we launched the ‘25 acts of kindness for 25 years of business’ initiative, ’25 for 25’ for short. From hampers to sky dives to Movember to beach clean-ups and even volunteering at an Alpaca sanctuary, it was a complete adventure! However, we knew it would not be complete without finally realising a soap collaboration with BillyChip.
It was then that we had an idea to contact Inkie, an artist we have long admired and who’s work can be found across the streets and galleries of the UK. After reaching out to Inkie, we discovered that Inkie the person is just as exceptional as Inkie the artist, as he kindly agreed to design our soap bars at no cost. Thanks to Inkie’s talent and creativity this partnership has blossomed into something extraordinary.
Behind the Bar
Every Mango & Lotus Flower fragranced soap bar is wrapped in bold, gold-foiled artwork created by Inkie. His signature aesthetic—a mix of swirling patterns, organic motifs, and urban flair—makes these soaps not just functional but also collector’s items. The packaging reflects the vibrancy and resilience of the communities that BillyChip supports.
True to our ethos, every soap is lovingly made in Somerset with RSPO certified-sustainable soap base and natural ingredients that are suitable for all skin types.
A Collaboration that Gives Back
What makes this project truly special is its dedication to giving back. For every soap sold:
• A portion of the proceeds are donated to the BillyChip Foundation, helping to expand their network of support for individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Additionally, with every soap purchased, BillyChip will donate a chip to someone in need.
Launch in the ‘Ministry of Soap’ Factory
To launch the collection, we hosted a vibrant pop-up event in our soap factory which featured a live art demonstration by Inkie himself. Attendees had the chance to witness the transformative power of collaboration in action. The result of the event was a stunning twelve-foot mural that is now proudly displayed in our factory, serving as a reminder of our collaboration for many years to come.
Our ‘Willy Wonka’ Moment
As if this project wasn’t exciting enough, there’s also a golden twist: hidden inside one of every hundred soap bars is a golden ticket, redeemable for a signed Inkie print worth £100. This surprise adds an extra layer of excitement, making every purchase a chance to own a piece of street art history while supporting a cause that matters.
A Collaboration that Matters
This partnership isn’t just about soap—it’s about creating meaningful connections between art, commerce, and compassion. By bringing together a luxury toiletry brand, a trailblazing social enterprise, and an iconic artist, this initiative highlights the power of creativity in driving social change.
Whether you’re drawn in by the eye-catching design, the high-quality soap, or the opportunity to support a worthy cause, this collaboration is a reminder that everyday products can be a force for good.
