Finding the perfect hand cream can be a challenge, with so much choice on offer nowadays. But oh boy, once you’ve found your ideal match, there’s no going back. That ‘saviour of skin’ should go everywhere with you, wherever life takes you (although we appreciate that may not far at the moment).

In this article, we hope to breakdown the benefits of good quality hand care and share some of the ‘secret sauce’ that makes our hand creams among the best on the market. We may be biased, but we can take your word for it as one of our bestselling products. Just read the reviews if you don’t believe us!

“Love the subtle smell and rich texture, best hand cream ever.”

Benefits of hand cream

If you’ve ever asked yourself, ‘what does hand cream do?’ then don’t worry; we have some inside information. A good quality hand cream will help boost the moisture levels in your skin and improve elasticity. The current pandemic has caused us all to be more vigilant about washing our hands thoroughly and regularly. It’s also worth noting that dry hands can look aged and tired, so effective hand care should be an essential part of your daily beauty routine. Some of the ingredients in a decent hand cream will moisturise hard working hands as well as protect the skin from environmental factors such as the weather and UV rays.

What makes our hand cream different?

Here at The Somerset Toiletry Company, our brand ethos is to create exquisitely made, honestly priced products for people to pamper themselves. We’re design-led and have an incredible team of talented designers based in Somerset who lovingly develop beautiful products both inside and out.

We make a diverse range of hand creams, but our most popular product has to be Naturally European. Predominantly produced in the UK, this body care and home fragrance collection has a premium look with bold pops of colour to compliment the vibrant scents. Inspired by European landscapes, the core range is available in six stunning scents: Ginger & Lime, Freesia & Pear, Rose Petal, Verbena, Milk Cotton and Plum Violet.

So, taking a deeper dive into what makes our Naturally European Hand cream so popular, we believe it’s down to the creamy texture and high-quality formulation. Our long-lasting (75ml) hand cream is blended using a range of essential oils, including avocado oil, coconut oil, baobab oil and rosehip oil. These plant-based ingredients are known for their anti-inflammatory and regenerating properties.

Have we told you how much we love shea butter? It’s one of our favourite ingredients, and Naturally European hand creams are made using 20% of rich shea. Shea butter moisturises and nourishes the skin, so regular use will shield you  from environmental damage. Our hand creams also contain glycerin, which is known to have superior moisturising properties that lock moisture into your skin and is also gentle due to a lower pH. Finally, we add added splash of vitamin E to support ongoing skin health.

“Had this product before, divine smell and very effective hand cream. It’s quite thick, which some people might not like, but it suits me. Lasts ages too.”

Sustainable Hand Cream

Sustainability is a focus for The Somerset Toiletry Company, and packaging is high on our agenda. Our Naturally European Luxury Hand Creams packaging consists of an outer card box, and an aluminium tube, both of which can be easily recycled. We are continually looking for new ways to improve our products to ensure they are as eco-friendly as possible. This is a challenging task in the beauty industry, but we’re heading in the right direction. For 2021 we’ve updating many of our gift sets, removing and reducing plastic where possible.

Vegan-friendly Hand Cream

All of our hand creams are suitable for vegetarians, and the majority are vegan-friendly. We’ve been working closely with The Vegan Society over recent years, and the only fragrance in the collection to avoid would be milk. You can quickly tell if any of our products have been Vegan approved on our website if the product image displays a ‘Vegan’ badge, or you will see the logo on the packaging. We’re hoping by the addition of The Vegan Society Trademark, those interested in plant-based living can quickly identify our vegan-friendly product range.

Cruelty-free Hand Cream

Thankfully, animal testing for cosmetics is banned in the UK and has been so for some years now. However, there are some concerning exceptions to the rule. Please refer to the EU regulatory body, REACH for more on this subject!

All of our products are cruelty-free, as we strongly believe against animal testing. Considerable advances in technology should mean that there’s no need to use innocent animals for this purpose. We are huge lovers of animals here in Somerset, as you’ll see if you follow us on social media. You’ll often find a range of pets in our head office; we once even had an under the weather chicken in for the day!

Suitable for sensitive skin

Every single person’s skin is different, and what may irritate one person may be fine for another. We generally find our hand creams can be used on all types of skin, even sensitive skin. However, we would suggest taking a close look at our ingredients lists (visible on our our website or the product packaging) if you’re aware of any specific allergens to avoid. Also, when things return to normal (hopefully soon), you could always pop into your local stockist (map available on our website), as many have hand cream testers which you’ll be able to sample in person before you make a purchase.

“The best hand cream I have ever used. I suffer from psoriasis, and this is the only hand cream that calms the dryness down.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed this spotlight on our much-loved Naturally Hand Cream. Why not Treat yourself and let us know your thoughts? We love to receive customer feedback.
