Before we get started, let’s remind ourselves that everyone’s skin is different, and a skincare tip that might work for someone, may not work on you. Body care is complicated and to ensure you treat your skin in the best way possible it is incredibly important to understand it. We will be recommending different body care hacks for different skin types as not every hack will necessarily work for you.

These tips and tricks will not work overnight, but by adding them into your routine, you will notice an improvement over time.

How to Take Care of Your Skin

Wash Your Face

Let’s start simple, washing your face with cold water will not only make you feel refreshed and wake you up in the morning but will help tighten your skin, reduce puffiness & calm inflammation. It is also important to use a cleanser to keep your face clean from daily pollution and leftover makeup.

Ice Facial

Another one of our favourite skin tips is skin icing, or ice facial, which is very popular at the moment. This technique consists of using an ice cube or plunge your face in a bucket of ice and cold water to reduce under-eye or facial puffiness. Ice has long been a secret to clear skin and a healthy-looking glow, it reduces inflammation, pore size and signs of ageing such as wrinkles.

If you are a novice at ice facials, we recommend rolling five or six ice cubes in a cloth, and then gently massage your face with circular moves for 1 to 2 minutes. We highly recommend this tip if you want to feel refreshed and have glowy skin.

Go makeup-free

Following on from this, going make-up free is a really good way to let your skin breathe. At the moment, with masks being an everyday necessity you can hide the bottom half of your face. If you’re not confident without makeup, use the mask as your friend!

We are currently spending more time at home, let’s take advantage of this time to stay makeup-free as much as we possibly can. Why not use these moments to apply a serum or heavier cream and our skin recharge?

Wash your hands

Now something that I hope everyone is doing even more now, is washing your hands! Now I’m sure you’re bored of everyone telling you & reminding you to do this, but it is so important.

Think of how many times a day you touch your face, and then how many times a day you touch surfaces that probably aren’t all that clean!

It’s a lot, you’ll be picking up dirt and bacteria without even knowing, then as soon as you touch your skin, boom there’s more bacteria on your face which will lead to breakouts and other skin problems. So, wash hands, keep your hands away from your face if you can & prevent those spots.

Sunscreen

The sun is great to get a bronzed look and some Vitamin D. However, we have to be very careful with how we expose ourselves to it. UV rays are harsh and can damage the texture of your skin, and cause premature ageing, so we recommend using SPF cream to protect your skin from the sun.

Use your SPF after your moisturiser or even better, find a face cream that contains SPF. You will also be able to find a foundation or tinted moisturiser with UV protection.

How to Take Care of Your Skin

Moisturise

As you all know by now, we have different skin types, whether it’s oily, dry or combination, we all need to take care of it. We should moisturise our skin to prevent dryness, redness and premature ageing.

Our body is also important and should be moisturised just as well, to avoid stretch marks, dryness and rashes. They are different ways to moisturise your skin, serums, face cream and body lotion. Here is our selection of The Somerset Toiletry Company body lotion for an excellent body care routine.

Drink Water

Do you drink enough water per day? Did you know on average we should drink 1.5 to 2 litres per day?

This is probably the easiest body care hack! Drinking water has a large panel of benefits, and it is something to consider if you want beautiful and moisturised skin. Amongst other benefits, drinking water will improve the appearance of your skin, prevent premature ageing, reduce puffiness and tighten your skin. It is by far one of the most cost-effective ways to keep your face healthy and glowy.

Sleep

Good quality sleep = Healthy skin! Aim to sleep at least 7 hours per night…

It isn’t a lie when we say that sleep is very important for our well-being and self-care. Sleep helps you reduce stress which directly affects your skin. Make sure you have a good night routine, and to help you we have developed a Night Time routine range, which will improve your sleep.

Our products are blended with Lavender and Chamomile essential oils, which are well-known for their relaxing and sleep-enhancing properties.

Why is skincare important?

Skincare is important for many reasons, but mostly to help you keep your skin in good condition. If you don’t take care of your skin properly you might experience premature ageing, skin redness, acne, puffiness. No one wants a puffy face!

An effective skincare routine will help you prevent all of this and will keep your skin looking the healthiest. An effective routine does not mean investing inexpensive products, a cold shower and drinking water will do a great job already. Although it can be expensive to use good products with natural ingredients, you can find great skincare brands without breaking the bank!

We like to say ‘Happy Skin, Happy You’.
